MLB: Pujols joins LA
Star hitter leaves Cardinals in US$254million deal
The Los Angeles Angels have confirmed the singing of star hitter Albert Pujols from the St Louis Cardinals on a mega 10-year deal.
The 31-year-old Major League star has signed a 10-year contract worth a reported US$254million. If true, the deal would be the second largest in MLB history, behind the US$275million one of the same length which prompted Alex Rodriguez to join the New York Yankees in 2007.
"This is a monumental day for Angel fans, and I could not be more excited," team owner Arte Moreno said.
"Albert's career performance clearly speaks for itself. He has proven to be the best player of his generation."
In October, Pujols became only the third player in baseball history, after Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson, to hit three home runs in a World Series game.
His efforts helped the Cards claim the title but now he heads west to LA. The Angels also announced on Thursday that they had signed pitcher CJ Wilson from the Texas Rangers. - http://www1.skysports.com/
